Blog!- The Secret Life of a Painting…

Swan and Stripey DaisyOkay – this had to be done. I just need to learn to type as fast as i think, then blogging may not be so daunting…or weird.
Thought I would just keep a loose journal on what creative projects I am doing, there is always something, and I would love to hear about any one elses’, as it can get quite isolating as the solitary artist sitting in the studio!

For those of you who know me from the markets, festivals or just around, thanks for dropping by! For those who don’t, best to check out my website where all will be revealed….

This weekend was really wet and cold up here in the Blue Mountains. So the best thing for it was to listen to some Nick Cave B-sides & Rarities and see what would transpire visually from the auditory and imaginary realms…

I used a wax resist method on the first image with beautiful fluid watercolours on a palette and just went with the feeling, mixing greens, limes and yellows for the dreamy flying Swan. Maybe I felt like flying away….
Then, as Nick sung about various muses, angels and saloon-bar hussies, I came up with “Stripey Daisy” – a kind of cross between circus carnival and Victorian-Era advertisement. But i liked the decorative feel of it, and, obsessed as I am with colour, I loved mixing the pinks, yellows and baby blues.
She’s kind of whimsical – she is also dreaming i think, and the little starlings are allowing her dreams to take flight through the ribbons in her hair…

thanks for reading- take care ’til next time!
